Gourmet coffee brew, most people agree, is most commonly accomplished with a French Press, sometimes called a Coffee Press. The primary advantage of a coffee press is that it allows you to retain flavor during the brewing process, since it does not have a paper filter which removes oil and solids that contribute to the taste of the coffee.

A French Press is basically a container where large coffee grounds sit in hot water for four minutes and then are strained out with a nylon or metal filter.

Here is how you aquire a gourmet coffee brew with a French Press:

  • 1) Start water heating for as many cups of coffee as you would like.
  • 2) Grind beans on "Course setting," sometimes called "Press Setting."
  • (For every four ounces of water, use one large tablespoon of coffee beans. You will adjust this amount based on the strength you like.)
  • 3) Put the coffee grounds into the French Press.
  • 4) Add the hot water. You want it hot, not boiling so leave it off heat for just under a minute before pouring it into the coffee press.
  • 5) Put the coffee press top on the coffee press. Be sure to keep the plunger at the top, just submerged into the water enough to eliminate air space between the water and the plunger. You should now see that coffee grounds are floating completely unrestricted in the water.
  • 6) Wait four minutes.
  • 7) Very, very slowly push the coffee grounds down to the bottom of the container via the plunger.
  • 8) You now have coffee ready to drink. Pour yourself and your friends the coffee you love.

Tips: Do not brew too long or you will over-extract the beans and wind up with bitter coffee. For safety, be sure that the pour spout on the coffee press is closed where the coffee is poured out. If you press the plunger down and the coffee has an easy escape through the pour spout, hot coffee could spurt out and burn you. In most cases you can turn the lid, and it closes the pour spout.

Coffee that sits in a coffee press is still in contact with the grounds and really should be enjoyed within ten minutes to insure the best flavor. Any remaining coffee can be retained for iced coffee. When cleaning up, do not allow grounds to go down the drain or you may risk it becoming clogged.

What our
customers say,

To all you coffee lovers out there... I have been drinking coffee for over 43 years and have never had a better cup than this brand of Kona Coffee. Immediately, I could taste the difference in what I had been drinking and this cup of perfection was worlds apart from an ordinary cup of coffee. It's like I had been consuming an acidic, watered-down version of coffee and not realizing it. I like the fact that the growers take great care in producing only the finest coffee bean. This coffee is now the only coffee I will drink! Once you have experienced this delectable, flavorful cup of coffee, I can promise you there is no settling for less than the best.

Fast delivery. Coffee arrived in reusable airtight bags that "really" seal. This coffee is fresh. I know that it is fresh because it is not bitter or flat when it is brewed. You don't need sugar or milk with this coffee. It tastes good just the way it is.

Tom - Oakley, CA

Just wanted to thank you on the excellent coffee.
I ordered some dark roast a month ago and gave it a try at work on my little coffeemaker. The office smelled great and the taste was outstanding. I did give away a few cups because our office coffee is garbage but I am a bit greedy with my supplies when it comes to that kind of quality. I gave folks your site but I think other folks can get their own.

Good stuff.

I absolutely love your coffee! I've never been a big coffee drinker until now. I can literally sit at my desk and drink cup after cup after cup. Not only does it give me a burst of energy, but it smells amazing and is very delicious. Definitely has a sweeter taste than any other coffee I have ever tasted. Usually, most coffee is sort of bitter. Not this coffee. The Kaluli coffee is wonderful! I love it.

I've been a coffee drinker for years now. When I lived in the Bay Area I had a favorite cafe that made the best coffee and I was a loyal customer. Recently, I found the tastiest coffee I've ever had and the best part is, I don't have to go to a cafe to find it. I can order it from the comfort of my own home! It's the Ferrari of coffee. It's so full of flavor, it makes Starbucks and Coffee Bean's stuff taste like bitter water. You've got to try a cup for yourself.

My name is Lara and I would like to tell you how great I think the Kona Coffee is. It is so great that I normally drink 2 cups of it. Love it! Love it! Love it! Thank you!!!

This is my day. Bweeeep! Bweeeeep! Bweeeeeep! Goes the alarm. The shrill sound is a cruel reminder that there is no early morning forest bird waking you today. Wap! Yes, that was your head hitting the cabinet doors since you're stumbling towards the grinder with your eyes closed. You finally reach it, you pour into the grinder the most delicious coffee beans ever tasted. You turn on the grinder and it makes short aromatic work of your favorite, the dark roast. Only the dark roast will do. Especially on cold, dark mornings. 4 agonizingly slow minutes later, the steaming, fragrant elixir is in your cup. A sip or two into it, the alarm is forgotten, the head is not throbbing, and you swear you can hear those birds! You silently promise yourself that the next time you travel to Kona, Hawaii; you're bringing an empty suitcase to fill with bags of this coffee! At the end of the cup, the world is just a bit brighter, maybe a bit warmer, and you decide sandals should be perfectly appropriate business attire for the day ;-) Thanks for the great coffee!

To whom it may concern:
My name is Jason from Galveston, Texas and love Kona Coffee! I've been a Folgers coffee drinker since I can remember.. I had a cup of Kona Coffee for the first time a couple days ago and my taste buds went crazy!!... I must confess, I switched to Kona Coffee and if I can share a slogan it would be "Kona... bringing a taste of paradise to your home."

Regards,
